Above is a map of the most popular theaters during Detroit’s early twentieth century history. Many of the theaters were located in close proximity to each other, and the sprouting of these theaters signified the great movement of people into Detroit. With the growth of the population came the growth of the entertainment industry and a changing lifestyle. Bars, theaters, and speakeasies were the stages for legendary artists such as Louis Armstrong and the home of dances from across the country such as the Charleston and Fox Trot.
