Richard Pryor

Although born in Illinois, Richard Prior was one of the most influential comedians of the 70s and 80s, especially in large cities such as Detroit, Chicago, and LA. He was also known for his roles in a number of movies and his work with fellow comedian Paul Mooney. Unfortunately, Pryor suffered from a drug addiction, characterizing the growing drug trade and its effect on places such as Detroit. In 1980, Pryor set himself on fire while freebasing cocaine. He survived, but would pass away of a heart attack in 2005.
