2011’s Super Bowl ad by Chrysler had people talking. The commercial was voiced over by Grand Rapids native, Kevin Yon, and featured world famous rapper Eminem. The footage showed both the historic highlights and shortcomings of Detroit. It acknowledged Detroit’s decay while maintaining the city’s strength and grit. Scenes of the Fox Theatre, Joe Lewis’ fist, and Diego Rivera’s frescoes in the DIA of the city’s auto industry were inspiring. Super Bowl XLV was the most watched in history with over 111 million average watchers. The now well known phrase “Imported from Detroit” is still used in their ad campaigns a year and a half later.
